Rainier Cherries coming up!

Sweet, delicious Rainier cherries are nearly ready for harvest. The weather has been perfect for growing an excellent cherry this year. Crop yield is down a little from last year but quality is outstanding. The current plan is to start the harvest the week of May 20 so get ready for our first offering of the 2012 season. Spring update

With spring comes fruit blossoms and the promise of another crop of cherries, pears and kiwi. February’s warm mild weather gave way to a wet March although, so far, the bloom has progressed well and, providing Mother Nature cooperates, we are looking forward to a good, clean crop. Frequent updates will be forthcoming so stay tuned.

2012 Late winter report

Weather has been unusually warm and dry. The buds (this year’s crop) on the trees look very good but we won’t start making projections for a couple of months. Warm dry conditions are worrisome in light of the potential for frost in the spring however, if this continues, we may see a little earlier initial harvest date than the last couple of years. Planning for 2012 promotions are underway so feel free to contact us for more information or we will be contacting you very soon.

Autumn brings cooler temperatures, vibrant colored leaves and the beginning of our Kiwi harvest. Our total crop is expected to be similar to last year with very good quality and sizing. And don’t forget we have good supplies of Golden Bosc and most of our varietal pears in the most popular sizes.

With the arrival of autumn we are featuring some of the favorite varieties in winter and fall pears. Sweet spicy flavored Golden Bosc, smooth French Butter, petite and sugary Seckel and golden skinned Taylors Gold. Always a delicious and nutritious snack, pears are a great addition to any menu.

Our pear harvest is well underway. Bartlett, Stark Crimson and French Butter pears are now available. Golden Bosc, Seckels and Comice will follow soon. By mid to late August Stillwater Orchards will have the entire delectable mix of pear varieties shipping from Courtland and Dinuba California.

The harvest has begun! Stark Crimson, the first red pear of the season, is now being harvested. Bartletts will follow the week of July 25^th, Golden Bosc the second week of August and all your favorite varietal pears will be available by mid to late August. Quality, flavor and fruit finish looks great this year so all aboard for the 2011 California pear season.

Sell off last years Anjous and those imported pears and get ready for the first fresh pear of the season. The 2011 Bartlett pear crop is right around the corner. The winter that wouldn’t let go has finally ended and we are hoping to start our Bartlett harvest in late July. Red pears will be around a week earlier and all of your favorite varieties will be available by mid August. Estimates for the state should be announced by June 23 but here at Stillwater Orchards we are expecting an abundant high quality yield of all varieties.

Finally, the highly anticipated, cherry season is almost here. Our long wet winter has given way to a beautiful spring. The crop is shaping up to be plentiful and of excellent quality. Rainier cherries should start in the next few weeks so get ready for the flavorful start of the summer fruit season.
