Rainier cherries are underway!
May 18, 2015

Sweet Rainier cherries are now available.  Packed in 1 LB bags, clam shells or loose, Rainier are the best tasting cherry of the short California cherry season.  This year’s early crop will be gone soon so order today!  Pears are also likely going to be early so get ready for the first and best pear of the season by early July.

Cherries are blooming!
March 9, 2015

After taking the year off in 2014 it looks like the Rainier cherries are coming back with a full crop.  The bloom has set under beautiful blues skies and perfect warm weather for the bees to do their work so, thus far, 2015 shows a lot of promise.  Chilling hours were not an issue this year and pear buds are also plentiful and getting ready to open.  Clearly we have a way to go before we can pop the first celebratory bottle of champagne but so far all crops look good!

Happy New Year!
January 9, 2015

2014 is history and 2015 is still a bit of a mystery.  December brought ample rain and chilling hours but January has turned dry again.  We are still cautiously optimistic however that we will still see some drought relief for the state this year.  Our location on the banks of the Sacramento River shields us from the worst conditions of the drought however water, or the lack there of, will always create controversy and the political urge to redistribute the precious resource.

On the lighter side, the buds on all crops look great at this stage meaning the potential is there for a great crop of cherries, pears and kiwi this year.  We have a way to go and a fair amount of weather to endure before we pick the first fruit of our labor but thus far everything looks good.

It’s not too early to start making plans for spring and summer promotions so feel free to call for more current information.

Our Company

David J. Elliot & Sons is a grower, packer, and shipper of fresh pears, apples, kiwifruit, and cherries. We are located near Courtland California, which is 22 miles south of Sacramento. The orchards around Courtland, next to the beautiful Sacramento River, are known to produce some of the best pears in the world.

We take pride in our family farming business, as we have for 150 years. We grow, pack, and ship our own fruit. We grow many different varieties of pears on our rich Delta soil: The famous Bartlett; the long russet Golden Bosc; the bright red Stark Crimson; the juicy Comice; the buttery French Butter and the sweet Seckel Pear. Besides pears, we also grow the red Bing Cherry and the Rainer Cherry, which is golden yellow with a rosy blush. We grow Royal Gala, Fuji and Pink Lady apples that are always sweet and crisp. Our kiwifruit are harvested just in time for the holidays.
